Suddenly lost "some" sound on my computer (??)

    Weird.

Suddenly, I have somehow lost some sound on my computer. If I go to a site where a sound file plays, it plays OK through my speakers. However, some of the internal sounds seem to have disappeared.

    Three examples:

Normally, when I reboot my computer, just before my desktop appears, I hear the default Windows sound clip. Nothing now.

Normally when I click a link in a web page, I usually hear a "click" through my speakers. Nothing now.

Normally, when I receive email via OE, I hear the notification. Nothing now.

    What gives?

Control panel -> Sounds -> Sounds tab. Make sure that the proper sound files are set for the events that you mentioned.

Also, click on the Volume tab, then the advanced button and make sure that nothing is muted or turned way down.

Thanks, Westech. I took a peek in the Control Panel. For some unknown reason, my Sound Scheme disappeared. I simply reselected it, and now I'm back to normal.

Oh, and one more time just for good measure -

Earlier today I used my SpySweeper to scan my computer and in fact I found some spyware, so perhaps that's what did the damage.
