Question Raq550 cgiwrap fails all cgi requests after logrotate?

    Okay, this is wierd.
On my raq550, every day at 04:02am local time (when the cron.daily scripts are run) I get a sequence like this in my error log (so far so good, normal killing of httpd children and semi-graceful restart of apache):

    ----------------------------------------
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:06 2004] [warn] child process 17335 did not exit, sending another SIGHUP
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:06 2004] [warn] child process 17370 did not exit, sending another SIGHUP
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:06 2004] [warn] child process 28908 did not exit, sending another SIGHUP
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:06 2004] [warn] child process 29066 did not exit, sending another SIGHUP
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:06 2004] [warn] child process 29091 did not exit, sending another SIGHUP
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:06 2004] [warn] child process 29092 did not exit, sending another SIGHUP
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:07 2004] [notice] SIGHUP received. Attempting to restart
[Mon Apr 26 04:02:08 2004] [warn] NameVirtualHost <myipaddress>:80 has no VirtualHosts
    [Mon Apr 26 04:02:10 2004] [notice] Apache/1.3.20 Sun Cobalt (Unix) mod_ssl/2.8.4 OpenSSL/0.9.6 PHP/4.0.6 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 mod_perl/1.26 configured -- resuming normal operations
    --------------------------------

    okay, now the problem...
every few days, immediately following this sequence, ALL cgi processing on my server dies. Not a single script or a few scripts, but ALL scripts - next several hundred lines in the error log look like this (not every day, but getting more frequent all the time, once every week-or-so):

    --------------------------------
[Tue Apr 27 04:05:26 2004] [error] [client 65.17.234.38] Premature end of script headers: /usr/cgiwrap/cgiwrap

[Tue Apr 27 04:32:05 2004] [error] [client 152.34.150.100] Premature end of script headers: /usr/cgiwrap/cgiwrap
    -----------------------------

And this goes on until I can reboot the machine... What's worse is that it has to be a HARD reboot - once this problem starts, my admin password no longer affords me access to the server, either through web admin or through SSH.

I've seen lots of posts with probs with the cgiwrap setup, and usually it's accompanied by a [warn] about cgiwrap not found... not only do I not get these messages, but I do not use cgiwrap at all in the first place - all my scripts are local to the sites they run on and are not protected behind any cgi-bin dir.

THIS IS NOT A SCRIPT PROBLEM - I've run every one of the 8 custom scripts the site uses through -c -w and -d and all are structured and run appropriately. In fact, when the server isn't FUBAR'd by this problem, all 8 scripts run fine and strong all day long, every day.

Has anyone else seen this? Because, golly gee, it's one step away from giving me a pretty serious aneurysm to accompany my steadily growing ulcer...

    thanx:barry

It will tell you more about the errors and you can take it from there.... I guess :-)
