how many domains should you host per server?
Is there a guideline in terms of how many sites should I host on my servers? Let's say that my weakest server is a PIII with 500 Ram and 80GGB (overselling allowed)
Let's say that most of the domains are just simple websites mostly serving only http request and not many intense applications, just some shopping carts and so...
Taking those factors in considerations how many website do you think that I should host?http://www.ciclonpr.com

just put as much as possible while notice you server load, keep it below 1 or 2, should be fine. i used to hear sb put 700 domains on a low end server.

To be on the safe side, probably not more than 100 to 150 small sites. As Fuse1982 said, check on the server load. Personally, I will keep it under 1. You can oversell but do not do it too much and make sure you have room to support the growth especially when say 1/2 of your customers actually use all that you provide them with.

there are "just simple websites" which have 1 hit per day, and you can put 10,000 of these on one box and never notice a slowdown. and there are "just simple websites with just some shopping carts", like amazon.com, which cover hundreds of servers.
there ain't any generic numbers. watch server load, memory, disk usage.

Thats the point... it all depends on the bandwidth consumption, CPU usage, memory load and factors like these. But as jcrespi talked about less popular or less bandwidth consuming and simple sites, so I think an average of 100-150 websites is not a big problem.
Keeping a good eye on all the statistics of your server can very easily and accurately answer you question.
All the Best!
