We recently moved a client to Verio because they support the PayFlow Pro component on their Windows servers. Good enough, but they refuse to grant write permissions on ANY directory except for a pre-defined directory they give you called /data/.

Their reason is security, which is fine, but how come Interland, MaximumASP, and every other large ISP I have been with does not seem to have the same issue??? In more than 10 years this is the first time any company has refused to grant me write privileges on a directory and they simply will not budge.

The reason this blows is because my client is using a CMS that already has hundreds of files uploaded to certain directories, with hundreds of hard-coded links and external links pointing to those files.

So what gives??? Can anybody explain why this is a reasonable policy, and if so, why no other host I have ever used seems to have a problem with this?
