I'm trying to avoid setting up a merchant account altogether. What made Paypal and 2CO attractive is that I didn't need a merchant account to accept CC's. The reason is that we're still new to e-commerce and don't want to sink a substantial investment in setting up e-commerce software, merchant account, gateway etc. Once we know we have a market, we'll probably upgrade to a more permanent/professional solution.
However, Paypal and 2CO don't have a way to manage inventory. Is there a service like Paypal and 2CO that also offers the creation of a storefront/shopping cart, with inventory management?
Paypal offers a shopping cart - but I do not know about the inventory feature.
osCommerce is a shopping cart in PHP that would be able to help you with that. Or I have a simple ASP cart that would be able to do that - if you are interested. I do not know what language you prefer. There are also other carts available but not too certain about your budget now. When someone usually mentions Yahoo!, I usually think they have money to burn.
Welcome to WHT, glad to see you're getting the most of your time here. For what you are looking for, Corey is right - OSCommerce will certainly be your best option. It has modules for both PayPal and 2CO, so integration will be a breeze and the inventory level controls are built in just the way you want them.
I'm more than happy to answer any further questions regardin oSCommerce as I have recently completed a couple projects involving it.
