Perhaps they need an outages forum over at www.managedforums.com

However, according to www.alertra.com, they've had no downtime this month at all. Just because one person comes in and complains that they can't reach their box, does not indicate the network is down.

We're getting intermittent drop outs to two of our servers at Managed.com - either their temporarily inaccessible to us from our UK BTOpenWorld ADSL connection (but are accessible via one of our ServerMatrix servers), totally up and accessible, or "down/unreachable according to Alertra.com but up according to our connection".
Something's wrong somewhere....

I know about traceroute, but it's too intermittent to pin down. Traceroutes work, then we lose access, and by the time we get to do a traceroute all is working again...

One of my servers, 66.79.181.x, was inaccessible for about an hour during this time frame but my other server was not affected. At least the outage didn't hppen during peak usage times. I just wish they would post maintenance or any time of service announcements in their non-existent forum or Sirius's forum he has provided.

My server was down for 4 (yes, four) days from Monday til Thursday (or Sunday night, can't remember which). I e-mailed them 3 times about the issue, to which they NEVER responded. Finally, on Thursday night, they e-mail me:
Managed PY has responded to your help desk request.

Dear Customer,
We apologize for the delay but your server has been power cycled.
It should be up soon.
Best Regards,
Managed.com
Managed.com has very bad business practices, yet I've stayed with them for only one reason, and that is price... I am seriously considering SagoNET or ServerMatrix.

At this time, our machine on managed.com is inaccessible via ssh (returns "connection refused"). The web server appears to be running, and the machine responds to pings. Traceroute shows no anomaly. For all I know, it might have been going on for 24 hours since that is the last time someone logged onto the machine.

SSH could have just crashed (as you can still reach the machine). Have you got any control panel(s) installed?

This is a well maintained Debian box. I've been running those for years, and CERTAINLY it never occured to me that sshd would die on its own. Moreso, the machine was configured once and sealed down. No upgrades or system changes were ever performed. Strangely enough though, the Sawmill server that runs on the same machine on a high port also stopped responding. So the prime suspect here is some firewalling genius at managed.com who locked down everything that's not port 80.
No, I don't run any control panel software and stuff.
We still have routing trouble from this machine to Israel - packets end up routed to a ppp user in France...

Well, I was surprised to find out today that they actually did some work for me. I left my sshd_config broken, and didnt pay attention. Some clown at managed.com rebooted the server (SCOLD SCOLD). The services went up but sshd didn't start. I emailed them asking whats going on thinking they might have a firewall issue, but apparently it was me. Someone actually logged on, fixed my config and rebooted the machine again. It runs fine now.
Another surprise was that I received a response within a hour after I emailed them. This was bizzare.

I spent the better part of 3 days trying to get straight answers out of them. Communication seems to be a real breakdown but thankfully haven't had many problems there
