I've been looking at a number of low cost hosting plans, & I can find ones that do everything that I want, with the exception that they limit the maximum size of individual emails that can be sent / recieved.
I have been considering Hostrocket or EHostPros, but they both have a limit of 5Mb which although OK most of the time, can be a big limitation - particularly with incoming messages, as I do a lot of work with large graphics files, & even when zipped they are over this size.
So does anyone know of any hosts with similar features / cost to the two mentioned above, but that will allow larger emails to be recieved?
Most companies don't limit attachment file sizes - they just limit the mailbox total. Most mailbox totals are set for 10MB. Just keep in mind if you send it to someone on for example yahoo.com, hotmail.com, msn.com, etd. - They are restricted for attachment file sizes, both incoming and outgoing.
Many are suggesting that the size is not an issue nowadays, & this is what I had assumed until looking through the support pages on Hostrocket's site & emailing EHostPros support to check, when I discovered that they both had this limit that could not be altered - they let you set the total mail box as big as you want within the limits of the space on your hosting plan, but there is always the same 5mb limit, no matter what plan you are on - with no way around it.
I haven't looked at any other providers yet, so am I just unlucky that the first two I picked to look at had this size limit?
To the people suggesting FTP or similar, this is what I would do ideally, but unfortunately with much of the stuff I have coming in, the amount of effort spend explaining to other parties how to upload files through ftp would probably end up driving me crazy after a few weeks.
