well you can get 2 letter or at least you used to be able to www.bt.com www.aa.com etc maybe it was pre the new rules? Im not too sure on the TLD rules tbh
you cant have 2 letter uk names but you could pre- nominet and anyone who had them then still has them ie bt.co.uk

    infact there are 6 only
    Qwest www.q.com
PayPal www.x.com used to offer $20/year mailboxes before paypal bought it
Nissan www.z.com (i had big@z.com when it was free portal before nissan bought it)
    Future Media Architects www.i.net Kuwaiti
    unknown site/owner www.q.net
    the X Foundation www.x.org

rumor said domains droped by mistake and those owners registered them and they are not allowed to sell the domain.
so new owners bought the old companies owning the domain to own them.

but sure how accurate this story is but thats what i heared

No, I think that price is an underestimate of their value.

    would you pay $500K for internet.com or i.com ?

it really depends men.com sold for 3 times more, act.com sold for $500K

it really depends on the name.

I am just going off my the law of supply and demand. The lower the supply the higher the demand.

There are only a FEW 1 letter domains out of the millions of domains in existence.

I think they would struggle to get that sort of price, especially the non .com ones. Look at the current usage of those domains, just redirects or relatively small sites.
