Question Need recommendations for a very good forum host

I am looking for a host for a relatively low-traffic website. Its main appliacation will be a forum (probably phpBB), and several other applications might be added later.

My demands at this stage are quite modest in terms of traffic and diskspace. My main concern is reliability: I don't want to try hosts that are known as problematic or that are likely to disappear.

I would be grateful if you could share your opinions, positive and mainly negative, on the following hosts whose plans fit both my technical requirements and my budget.

Hosts that have replied my Host Quote query on wht:

    HarveyHosting.com --- http://www.harveyhosting.com/web_hosting_services.php
    VMC-Hosting.com --- http://www.vmc-hosting.com/webmaster_plans.htm
    ancilehosting.co.uk --- http://www.ancilehosting.co.uk/hosting.php
    NetSpaceInternet.com --- http://www.netspaceinternet.com/mult...x-hosting.html
    allin1websolutions.com --- http://www.allin1websolutions.com/hosting.php
    ayksolutions.com --- http://www.ayksolutions.com/mod.php?mod=siteinfo&id=10
    infrenion.com --- http://www.infrenion.com/services/shared.php
    aetherihosting.com --- http://www.aetherihosting.com/sharedplans.php

other hosts with plans I liked:

    2wdh.com --- http://www.2wdh.com/hosting/
    dr2.net --- http://www.dr2.net/?src=hosting
    xtremeplay.net --- http://www.xtremeplay.net/wh.php
    canaca.com --- http://www.canaca.com/virtual.html

Other recommendations of hosts you have had good experience with also very welcome.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

If you're looking for a truely stable host and cost isn't a problem, I recommend pair.com. You can be sure they're not going anywhere anytime soon, and their uptime, speed and reliability is the best I've experienced.

If that's a little too expensive for you, try CredibleHost.com. They've been around since August 2002, have a lot of good reviews here, have an excellent community going and the owner, Bonnie, is great - friendly, knowledable and fast to respond to tickets.

Other stable hosts that have been around for a while and should be good for what you're looking for:
Dinix.com (I use them at this time and I'm quite honestly AMAZED)
    SprintServe.net
    UnitedHosting.co.uk
    HTTPme.com
    Voxtreme.com
    Dathorn.com
    HostGator.com

For the first stage, I suppose around 300MB and 3GB of transfer should do. PHP, MySQL, GD -- nothing beyind the very standard. The plans I was considering so far were up to around $60/year.

Thanks, but the smallest plans of most of these hosts are way beyond my requirements...

UnitedHosting would probably suit you very well. They are well established business and I don't think I've ever read a negative review about them. Their $8 or $13/m packages meet your requirements.

I believe he is looking for recommendations, not a dodgy quote.

Actually, he already used the Host Request (that's where he got his list of sites from).

You are henceforth banished from this forum under pain of death.

Aside from myself canaca.com sounds familiar.
Patron: I'd like my free lunch please.
Cafe Manager: Free lunch? Did you read the fine print stating it was an April Fool's joke.
Patron: I read the same way I listen, I ignore the parts I don't agree with. I'm suing you for false advertising.
Cafe Owner: Is our lawyer still working pro bono?

Yes, some are not mentioned at all, some are mentioned but not in helpful ways for my purposes, and on some the opinions are mixed.

If I needed a bigger plan it would be much easier to pick a host on the basis of reviews here. But finding good, reputable hosts that offer relatively small packagaes at a reasonable price is quite hard.

Try dixiesys for a small plan. They've been around for ages and have some great reviews.

Also, www.yupapa.com allows you to enter a custom plan with exactly what you need -- reasonable prices too. That guy is crazy, but man he knows how to run a server
