Choosing a US ISP?
Got a friend in the USA looking to move from a free AOL trial to a regular ISP for connecting to the internet.
Has anyone got any tips on how to choose, and which companies are worth looking at?
It's the Tennessee area, in case relevant.
I can't advise as I'm in the UK and don't know the US markets for this.

I hear the overall quality of US internet is good -- ntl: haven't expanded over there yet

If you are even thinking about them, run the other way. I would also suggest getting broadband if itís in your area. Some companies have specials for $39.95/month
Is this a Dialup account or a broadband account he is looking for? If it's a broadband type (DSL/Cable), I'd recommend him signup with BellSouth ADSL (Fastaccess.com), I'm pretty sure his telephone provider (POTS) is BellSouth
