droc.ca sending letters about how it's much better to transfer domains to them
I haven't heard much about Domain Registry of Canada on these boards, but I registered my main domain with them a while back. At the time, they were cheaper than the big names like VeriSign (and still are) and the smaller ones were just beginning to appear, droc.ca being one of them.
Recently, I registered another domain name through Largenets, my web host for several sites. It will expire on September 17ish, 2004. Not too soon, yet. However, I received a letter from the droc.ca today about how much better it would be for me to transfer the domain name to them. For a small fee of CAD $40 / year, I can save (!!) $-25, AND have better service.
Anyone have any experience with them? A while back I've been worried about getting my main domain away from them and right now, am I even more worried. I will be very surprised if they don't charge me a transfer fee of CAD $100 or so.
I suggest you stay away from them, especially with the many cheaper options available today.
I got their snail mail "renewal" notices all the time. What a waste of money and paper (trees, OUR resources). Yes, and their prices are ridiculous; but there are always newbies: a few months ago, a client of mine ALMOST fell for them. Lucky that I successfully convinced him that this was a scam.
