How have you gone about seting up Modernbill for cPanel reseller hosting accounts?
I understand how to get the package variables setup, but what about private nameservers? I saw in the modernbill support forums that you have to set these as client variables, but that seems a really sloppy way to achieve it, as the automation becomes rather pointless.
So, those that offer reseller hosting packages and use modernbill, how do you work your billing system?
Also, are there any alternative billing systems that give good cPanel integration targetted at resellers?
Although Modernbill is a great system, it is not currently handling reseller account creation. Trust me, this is something we would love to see as a majority of our buisness consists with reseller accounts (word of mouth).
We set up reseller accounts manually as until MB can offer some form of integration, will we choose to use it.
I dont even know if there is a script to create an account via WHM/Cpanel. Perhaps this isn't a MB issue, but rather a Cpanel issue? (not sure).
... even if there was a script to do it, i'm still not sure if we would use it as we do several extra steps upon every reseller account creation to insure transparency... so again... the auto-account creation would have to be sophisticated at the least before we could consider it.
Yes I know it will create a reseller account, but what about private nameservers - how do you deal with that, and adding them to the welcome email?
As I said in my first post, adding them manually after the event seems sloppy. I'm just wondering if anyone else has a better solution.
On the whole, I think Modernbill has a lot of features, but an awful interface. They have gone for looks over functionality. There are many parts of the admin interface where you have to perform a function, and then go through several mouse clicks just to return to where you were. The client interface isnt nice either.
I'm thinking of returning to clientexec - it may not have all the features yet, but at least what it does it does well, and in an organised way.
Even though ModernBill can prove to give quite a few headaches, the automation is very easy to achieve for virtual hosting accounts. I personally prefer to look at each reseller account and setup private nameservers myself so that I am positive everything will work accordingly. The same goes for domain names, I register them manually to protect against fraud (we don't have the FraudGuardian module yet).

Yes, it was fine for shared hosting accounts, but for reseller accounts it's actually making everything even more of a hassle. I suppose that's just me expecting more from the program. I was prepared to accept the trade off for increased functionality over ease of use when the benefits were there, but if I'm going to have to manually do everything on any program, I'd rather it was one with a more usable interface - especially for my customers.
