How can I find out the company that hosts a .com? I found a site that has ripped a ton of articles, artwork, etc directly off my site, and I want to see if the host will punish the use (who continues to ignore me).
I am sorry, I was thinking that you wanted to check out who has that domain registered. Well, you could still do a WHOIS lookup to see if it is listed to the Hosting Company. You could then do a Name Server lookup in Command Prompt =
And that will give you the IP address. You could then do a WHOIS lookup on that IP address.
Have you done the silly thing and actually just contact the site directly and ask them to remove the articles or at least find out how they got them before you try and go after their host. Its been my experience that a lot of times its a simple misunderstanding and they may not even realize that they have something of yours on their site. Especially if its some kind of news site as they may have had a freelance writer submit your work as theirs and they are simply using under the impression that they have orginal work not something someone else stole.
Either that or some people just believe that the net is free and anything on it fair way, but if confronted directly most usually comply without the need to have to go try and find their hosting company and report them that way. Afterall a more effective way is to write a simple cease and decease explaining the situation and have it sent certified mail to whatever address is listed in their whois.
Check domain's whois for owner's phone and call him. This way usually works better than contacting by email. Had similar problem with stolen web site design few months ago and they removed all ripped stuff.
