THE WALL STREET JOURNAL claims today that search engine giant Google will announce its initial public offering (IPO) within a matter of days.

The reason, said the newspaper, is that Google will have to report details of its business in any case, because of US regulatory rules covering privately held businesses.

The Journal is speculating that the value of such an IPO could be as much as $25 billion.
