255 IPS per NIC?
I wondering.....
A server with 1 NIC card can only have 254 IP based accounts right?

That is not correct. You can put many more. It depends on the OS and Kernel.

I believe he was referring to Linux. And, everyone I've talked to says you can't have more than 254.

Kernel Mods
You can make slight changes to the kernel to allow for more. I've seen as many as 1000 IP's run on Linux and 2000 run on FreeBSD and even saw someone test 4000 on Solaris.

Well, it seems like freebsd doesn't have any trouble with it at all.
