Reporting to the Senior Manager, Networking and Telecommunications, the Network Engineer will be responsible for planning, design, implementation, IT audit, and support of all MicroStrategy data networks. (S)he will be responsible for planning, design, implementation and support for information security solutions. (S)he will also support IS management by coordinating key projects to upgrade and/or maintain the data infrastructure, communicating operations status and assisting in establishing priorities and stakeholder expectations regarding project delivery schedules.
Once familiar with the infrastructure and ongoing operations, the incumbent will be given a high degree of autonomy in establishing daily priorities and activities. The incumbent will participate in developing goals and plans for managing/securing the corporate data network infrastructure. This responsibility includes participation in the development of project plans and network documentation, proposing solution design and verifiable controls, and improving change management coordination. This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical and communications skills. Consulting skills helpful.
Job Duties (include but not limited to):
Full life-cycle management (define, design, develop, deploy) for various projects relating to the upgrade and ongoing maintenance of the corporate data network infrastructure.
Serve as a liaison with other IS teams and other company departments to define requirements for and carry out various inter-team projects.
Daily general support for all routers, switches, firewalls and other network systems, serving as a key escalation point for troubleshooting complex network/systems/security issues.
Provide regular management reports to direct supervisor relating to network health/maintenance/uptime/etc.
Serve as the on-call engineer, sharing duty on a rotating basis.
Develop options, recommendations and analysis for avoiding/solving problems
Document engineering standards and proposals or recommendations for network designs / engineering changes.
Work with network engineers, technical staff, and vendors to develop/implement network projects.
Research, evaluate, and recommend new tools and technologies.
Assess emerging network technologies and make recommendations to information technology management.
Other duties as assigned.
Education: College degree preferred, ideally in computer science or a related field.
Strong and highly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Certifications (or equivalent training/experience) required: MCSE(2k) & CCNA
Professional Certification (or equivalent training/experience) preferred: CCNE, CCIE, CISSP, GIAC
At least four years experience in a corporate (or large dot.com) IT/IS environment
2 4 years experience building and supporting complex corporate data networks.
Microsoft security solutions (ISA server, Exchange & AD security, etc.)
Cisco router and switch installation, configuration and operation, including 2000, 3000, 5000, 5000 and 7000 series.
Cisco firewall installation, configuration and operation, including PIX 520, 515, 501.
Cisco VPN installation, configuration and operation, including VPN 3030.
Thorough understanding of Cisco proprietary routing protocols, access lists, filters.
Must be proficient in the use of protocol analyzers and network test equipment.
Must have in-depth knowledge debugging problems related to communications protocols
Must have superior troubleshooting skills.
Should have working knowledge of Network Monitoring, admin tools, & sniffers.
Deploying and utilizing Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
Audit/assessment skills: security vulnerability analysis, logfile analysis and forensics.
Creative problem solving abilities
