    Cpanel server backup ?

Hello guys. I did a search on here, but the instructions are not really very clear on backing up data. Its like this. I have a RedHat9 Cpanel server, and intend to use the backup space from
    http://www.tranxactglobal.com/

    I am wondering

    1) What should I backup (/home , /var, or ?)
    2) How should I backup (Cpanel feature/rsync)

    Thanks everyone !

Oh ic... hmm if i use cpanel backup feature, everytime i backup again will the old copy be deleted ? And if lets say one day my entire server is screwed and requires a full OS reinstall. How can i restore the data ? Will i have to reconfig the server, etc.

    Thanks

    Hey ToOnZ,

PM me if you want to try my personal backup script.
The only thing I would worry about is your clients data. A server can be setup again easily enough, but losing your clients data is a life and death issue.

My backup script is meant for Cpanel systems. I currently use it on 3 of my boxes. You set Cpanel to perform daily local backups to your local second drive on the server as usual.

I created a shell script that is set as a cron job to run as often as you like. It will loop through all the files in a folder you specify eg: /backup/cpbackup/daily and FTP them automatically to any FTP server you have it configured with. Once it is setup, the cron job does this by itself... daily, every couple days, or once per month.

    Works like a charm

I already backup to a 2nd local harddrive currently... maybe the script would be useful If you could send it through email it would be great

Anyway what is the difference of your script from the backup feature to remote ftp server in WHM ?

I think probably cPanel does not do local + remote together, its either or.

The Cpanel remote FTP backup feature is crippled and doesn't allow you to FTP to a certain folder... with my script you can FTP to a specific folder for each server.

I'll send the script off to you guys tonight.

    Sounds like a plan

    Indeed looks easy to use.

However, my current backup script to 2nd harddrive is done by a script, not the cpanel feature. Thus cpanel feature is still available to use.... do you guys think i should setup cpanel feature ?
