.US domains - of any worth?
hey there!
Are .us domains of any worth? What would you say? Do they have potential? E.g. like I got chum.us which is not really the "business-assoziated" domain, but in .com this domain would still be of any worth. What about .us now?
Do you think .us domains are in the uprising or falling apart?
best regards, pyro

I'll refrain from replying to the above comment.
.US domains. IMO they have a long way to go. Some have sold .us domains and made a profit. I have avoided them myself.

Think so. USA is number 10 of largest numbers of domains registered and became only 2 years ago available to the public. In my eyes US is better than WS, CC and all those other mini states where some clever guys put up some servers.

Unforunately, .us is one of the weaker extensions out there right now along with .biz imo. As a domain reseller, I make very few .us sales.
I will say that it has a future though.

Quick answer: Around 2-10% of a .com's value.

Personally I can only think think of a few .us sales above $1000, the highest I have heard of is music.us for $4000 which is a bit of a joke considering the quality of that keyword.
Unless the name is a very high quality term or very good 3 letter then the name is probably worthless.

The estimate of a domain's value goes:
.com = 100% of a .com (Obviously)
.net = 50% of a .com
.org = Around 20% of a .com
Everything else = 1-10% of a .com
That was the estimate established before the .ws, .us etc. were made. But seeing the popularity of the .com, .net and .org, I'm pretty sure the estimates are pretty close, though everything below a .org might be worth more than they had prior.

If everything else is worth 1-10% of a .com value why is sex.gm still available and why did casino.ws sell for $400 recently yet casino.com sold for $5.5 million? surely casino.ws would be worth $55,000-$550,000 using your 1-10% estimation?
