    New Nocster Bandwidth?

Looks like Nocster has added PCCWBTN bandwidth to their current mix.
    root@server2 [~]# traceroute pccwbtn.net
traceroute to pccwbtn.net (63.218.3.250), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
    1 ge-6-0-core.scr1.hostnoc.net (66.96.192.1) 0.265 ms 0.328 ms 0.357 ms
    2 66.197.191.46 (66.197.191.46) 4.603 ms 4.620 ms 4.606 ms
    3 ge3-0.2.cr01.phl02.pccwbtn.net (63.218.31.5) 4.737 ms 5.079 ms 4.982 ms
So now they have XO, Cogent, Verio, and PCCWBTN. Good sign for Asian users.

Wow, that's a pretty direct route. What were you pinging Nocster at before the change?

They were having some issues with the fact that they were picking up Global Crossing in NYC, having it go to PHL, and then to Scranton. They didn't have redundancy (dual routers or fiber) on the NYC-PHL route, and there were some issues, so they scrapped it for the time being. Not sure if they're eventually bringing it back in through Philly or not.

Watcher - Comcast is still big with their ATT connection, and ATT has been offloading a lot of traffic to PSI/Cogent lately (at least with Comcast traffic). You do have to remember that Comcast's only connection is ATT (they used to tie in with the Comcast Business network, but not anymore from what I can see).
I've been seeing ATT -> Cogent a LOT in my traces from home for many providers, not just Burst.

I spoke Dan (VP of Burst) earlier, and he said that the official announcement will be made shortly.

    When I am tracing to any of the following;
    Nac
    Fluidhosting
    ServInt
    Gnax
    Rusko.us
I don't see any Cogent at all, just when tracing to Burst...

Watcher - I don't think any of those have Cogent, or at least not a large amount of Cogent. NAC has a Cogent link, but they also have a direct link to ATT, so it doesn't matter. EV1 goes over Cogent or Williams for me (keeps changing). Either way, Cogent isn't a bad thing in this case - just check the speeds. I'm nearly maxing out my 3Mbps connection downloading a speed test (getting 2.8Mbps).

I get an average ping of 50ms to ServInt (ATT -> Cent - >GNAPS), but only 30ms to ZubrCom in Equinix Ashburn (ATT -> GBLX -> nLayer) from home. Routes, speeds, and pings will be different on every connection across the country. The good thing about BTN is that it has direct peering with many cable companies, including Rogers and Shaw, as well as AOL, ALGX, Telia, KPN, Tiscali, Broadwing, BellSouth, MSN, NAC, and many others. They also have peering in Equinix Ashburn & San Jose (I think that's SJO). Either way, PCCWBTN is here to stay & is looking great from Burst.

I wasn't commenting on the quality of Cogent, just that I don't see it in any routes except to Burst. EV1 runs through Williams for me so I don't see it there either.

I am a fan of BtN bandwidth, very little hops and great bandwidth!

Sounds like a great news to nocster clients.

Jaali - I had customer also using Rogers who complained about that too. It seems that Rogers gives priority to their BTN routes, which takes a toll on latency. Submit a ticket to Burst so that they can check things out with BTN, who could possibly fix the issue between them & Rogers.

Because PCCW is a Hong Kong-based company and the main hub is in Hong Kong too. Many traffic flows through Hong Kong and to other Southeast Asian countries
