Plesk 7 create subdomain 403 forbidden error
Plesk (domain user) -> Subdomains -> Create a new subdomain (subdomain1)
Then I create a very simple index.html and put it into /home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/subdomain1/httpdocs
In internet explorer,
i type hxxp://subdomain1.domain.com/index.htm (wtf... You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 5 posts or more.)
403 forbidden error.
My ISP told me that's because frontpage extension is turn on.
And ask me to turn off if I dont need it.
I tried to do so but still 403 forbidden error.
Then I also try to REMOVE that domain.
And create a CLEAN one. and NO frontpage extension.
And only create a subdomain to test it.
Finally i still got 403 forbidden error.
My Plesk version is 7.0.1
Check the permissions on the file, and make sure it's owned by the correct user (ftpusername.psacln).
How did you create the file? Via the command line interface/ssh and vi or whatever, or on your local computer, and uploaded via FTP or the control panel?
If you created it via the CLI/ssh/vi, there's a good chance the permissions and ownership could be wrong.
I've tried to type a wrong file name like index2222.html
and it does not return 404 file error
still returns 403 forbidden error...
and the permission of the file is rwxr--r--
I create it through Plesk control panel (by File Manager)
What does your error_log say when this error is appearing?
You'll want to check your error_log (under the statistics/logs directory) for more clues. Invariably that'll go a long way.
This is the last entry in the /home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/statistics/logs/error_log

I've checked that there's no .htaccess file under /home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/subdomain1
While it does exist in /home/httpd/vhosts/balletz.com/httpdocs
and in /home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/httpsdocs
Plesk bug in creating a subdomain?
I guess Plesk miss out to create a .htaccess file in the subdomain?
Or other reason?
Sounds like Plesk has setup the subdomain with password protection. I'd probably be guessing you'd want to check protected directories. Plesk could also have a bug so that if you setup httpdocs/* as a protected directory it thinks it's for the subdomains as well.
Just a guess,
In Plesk -> Protected Directories
It shows me "No Protected directories."
Plesk setup httpdocs/* as a protected directory as it think it's for the subdomains as well, this is no problem. but why Plesk wont create the .htaccess for me as well?
yeah u rite, this may be a bug...
Any handy way to configure it properly manually?
Ok... I ran a few tests. There's probably a directive missing in Plesk to limit the effects of a .htaccess.
You can't have a .htaccess file in any higher directory. Or this file would need to be world readable, which wouldn't be as secure.
If there's a .htaccess file in any of them, that will create the error you got.
I'll need to check the required directive, I don't know it off the top of my head, but it could be added to
to correct this if the .htaccess creating the problem is required (which shouldn't be the case) or if you're sharing a server and can't access anything higher than /home/httpd/vhosts/domain.ext/.
Ok... create/modify the vhost.conf mentioned above (again, if you didn't delete it yet). That's what you need.
Another <Directory> directive could be added after that to enable .htaccess in the required directories. Or you could stick with the current directives and probably just use something like
< Directory />
</ Directory >
Either way, read up on .htaccess and it's related directives.
< Directory / home / httpd / vhosts / domain . ext / subdomains >
</ Directory >
OMG, I owe you man!
no more 403 forbidden error for subdomain now!!!
However, I still have one more 403 forbidden error.
It comes from the Web Stats report.
The error is stored in error_ssl_log instead.
I added the following lines in the vhosts.conf (You are rite, I have to create this file by myself as you told me)
[ Tue Apr 20 01 : 25 : 35 2004 ] [ crit ] [ client 18.104.22.168 ] ( 13 ) Permission denied : / home / httpd / vhosts / domain . com / statistics /. htaccess pcfg_openfile : unable to check htaccess file , ensure it is readable
Prime you got any idea?
< Directory / home / httpd / vhosts / domain . com / statistics >
</ Directory >
Anyway, thousands thanks for the help. really appreciate
