I have an account thru a friend of who is reselling thru Ventures Online (venturesonline.com) and they are doing something strange. VOSN (their email server) is rejecting me according to their new policy of maximum 20 email connections per hour. I receive lots of email (including tons of spam) and by the time I sort thru the mail (before I download it) my account is over max connections and I get shut out.
Anyone hear of this policy from other hosts and anyone have any recommendations on whoi I can change my MX to for better hosting?
No, I haven't heard of this particularly. But I recently closed an account with VO because I was sick of all the little problems I had to chase them up about. It's as if they never monitor their servers to see if they're running fine, and only look in on them when complaints are received.
You might have to adjust your procedure of retrieving email if the 20 connection limit kicks in so early. By the way - 20 connections per hour allows you to retrieve email every 3 minutes. Is 3 minutes really that bad?

It's not so much that I check mail every 3 minutes or 5 minutes. The problem I am getting is that when I do check mail, I check for spam directly thru the server instead of d/l to my mail client. I use a program called Poptray to view my mail and see if it's spam. Since I get tons of spam, everytime I read the messages, I get blocked about halfway thru.
