I am using smartftp to upload files to my first website. My question is, where do these files exactly go? I know they go to the remote server, but are they supposed to go directly to the page and take shape? if not where can I find them and manage them? I uploaded the files into the public folder but when I go to my domain address they are not there...any poiners?
Either way, you should see a directory called www or public_html
Put your files there.
Your entry page should be called either default.html or index.html
Once you get them in there, web browsing to your site should work fine.
upload your files into the public_html server.
when people go to your domain, the server gives them the index file thats inside that dir'. (b default, this can be changed of course with .htaccess, or a redirect... whatever)
when you go with a browser to: domain.com/folder
you will actually get the index file: domain.com/folder/index.html
it can be index.htm, or index.php, that doesnt matter. (but if you have more then one index file, they have a ranking order, so it will display the .htm not the .php)
if you have no index file in that dir' the server will auto-generate the file listings. (or it will give you a 403, depands on your .htaccess file)
the public_html dir' is the top one.
upload all files there, including the index one.
also, your host should answer stuff like this, not me.

I uploaded "mysite" files from my local browser into public.html but when I browse the remote ip address folders they appear under mail yellow folder(the public.html is higher up over the mail folder) also how come the private folder is one of the folders that branch out of public.html folder??
