Does anybody know where the information that is required for the Webhostingtalk "hosting request" system goes? I see that it is asking for your telephone number and private home address. I do not mind giving my information for a serious and professional quote but I would like to know who is getting my information as well as my ISP email account. Does it get posted somewhere or how does it work?
There is no explanation as to who is seeing this private info so I wondered if anybody knew?
Anyone that has the little bit of money it takes to obtain a Premium Membership with Leads will see any information you provide in the Host request . The people that obtain your information are not pre-screened and there are no guarantees their quotes will be legitimate.
There are probably some good hosts there, just don't assume that because they can respond to you with a quote they are good hosts. There is no substitute for your own research...
To clarify, when you enter your info in the web hosting section, it gets posted to a message board which can only be accessed by hosts that pay the $75 leads membership fee.
You will then be contacted by companies individually, either by email, phone or whatever method you prefer. You are not required to enter a phone number.
Also, if you're wondering, you will not get hundreds of emails. It seems the average number of views per request is around 30 (for shared hosting), you should expect maybe 5-10 replies.
Like Watcher_TVI said, there's no guarantee that the hosts that reply are good hosts, so do your research, and try to get in touch with the companies that you are interested in to get a feel for their service.
