When I register a domain name, I want the info about registrant, administration, contact, billing and technical to show my own details.
However, since I don't have a credit card, I want to use my friend's credit card to make the payment. During the registration process, I need to give my friend's credit card details including credit card billing address.
Does this billing address have to be the same as the billing address in the domain registration details above?
Have your friend purchase the domain for you and then push it into your own account so you have full control. eNom is the best for pushes such as I described however not all eNom resellers will give you full control. Do your research just like you did above. Charging for an ownership transfer is robbery IMHO.
Originally posted by auctionSuite I'm really curious....What registrar is it that wants to charge to change the contact information?
There is a difference between changing contact information (admin/tech/billing contact), and changing the registrant. A change of registrant is a change of "ownership" (in quotes as it is not really ownership), and if things are done properly this should involve more than just editing the Whois record. I am aware that some registars will allow you to change a registrant by merely editing the details in your control panel, but that's not how things should be done.
