1U Case PSU's
Just purchased a few 1U cases w/ PSU's and was wondering if the PSU's that came with it would be ok or should I upgrade.
It will be running
1- P4 2.8HT 800FSB
1- 7200RPM IDE HD
6- 1" case fans
No CDrom or Floppy
It will be used for webhosting.
Thanks for your help!
I was told that a 3ghz P4 uses about 90w so you might be cutting close. I can say, however that I have a very similar setup (1U), with an XP2100 processor, 7200rpm drive, and I think 8-10 40mm fans running on 220w. Try one machine out and see how it goes, if it doesn't work well, go for the upgrade.
Thanks for the feedback.
I'm burning it in now.
Temps: 44c (CPU) 30c (Sys)
Vcore = 1.53v
3.3v = 3.32v
5 rail = 5.13v
12V = +11.73 -12.36
Use infrared thermometer to measure the temperature under MAX CPU load.
The sensors onboard aren't that accurate (maybe they are, but the readings are quite offset.)

That PSU should be ok for most single HD / CPU setups. Just watch the temp under full load.
More importantly, watch the fans. They die frequently and it doesn't take long for the PS to meltdown when they do.
