I buy ads from google, overture and a couple industry specific websites. I would like to be able to track how many times people click the ads and also how often they become customers. Google and Overture tell me my click through rate but the industry specific sites do not.
Another way would to actively monitor your users based on their ip address which is logged in your access_log . once you get an order, it should tell you what the ip address of the user ordering is. once you get an order grep your access_log for their ip address, and see where they came from.

Indeed it is. But it can still be used for some basic ad tracking uses by looking at referral urls and few other things related to ad tracking that webalizer can show.
I am not entirely sure of what level of tracking the poster is looking for. Without knowing that, we can only guess as tracking tools run very diverse from free webalizer to million dollar MicroStrategy's data intelligence tools
