register domain or set up hosting first? does it matter?
I'm going to register a domain name and set up web hosting using two different sites. Does it matter which I do first?
Not at all. Might want to get the domain name as quick as possible though if you think you have your eye on a great name.
When you get your hosting account you just log in to where you registered your domain and switch the name servers which the process of propagation takes around 24 - 48 hours. The name servers of the new host are usually in the signup email or in your control panel.
Most hosting sign-up forms want a domain name. Would make sense to have the domain first. The chicken did come before the egg.
Good thinking acts837. I am used to accounts based on Helm for the past year and Helm doesnt require a domain name on signup... I forgot that in general signup forms do require it.
Ignore my post above
I have my own hosting so I, like yourself Matthew, can create and delete accounts at will but the average end-user is for sure in a different boat.
acts937, agreed when you have your own server world wide. I seem to be adding around 3-5 new accounts a day (very small ones) for new domain names etc... its for sure a nice boat to be in.
You really need to get the domain name first.

Get your domain ASAP. And if it's a good name, you might want the other extentions too.
