There are multiple network segments, not every server is on the same switch or router. I have no proof either way, but I'm just making a general statement.

Only part of managed.com was down, and I know it was, I have tons of email from customers who's sites were down. And I have Websitepulse.com data:

Yesterday there was about an hour of very slow access to our server at managed. Email support our concern and the reply below. After they resolve it the line is back to top speed.

Tech ZY has responded to your help desk request.

so...they try and crack the passwords for the root accounts? is that what they do when they try DDos?

Frankly I am not knowledgeable about this DDOS attack, but have heard many DC caught off guard by it.

Check out some info about DDOS here

I mean yeah its good, and my downtime was 3 months ago only 94.781%, but now it is like 99.6XX%, so they are getting better, but dont use for major hosting quite yet

If you ask me, please go ahead. So far I have not much problem with managed, so I recommend managed. Their service and line have improve a lot. May be I join at a time when things are a lot better at managed, I didn't experience anything bad like those posted in some of the threads in WHT.

I won't deny that I have had issues with Managed.com, but overall I am satisfied with the service. I have had a development FreeBSD box with them since January, here is a quick summary of my experiences so far:

    Pros:
    + Blazingly fast network
+ Rock solid hardware - it's tolerating some of my more demanding stress-testing programs, survived 2 remote make worlds and plenty of kernel builds with no issue.
+ Good communication when moved from one netblock to another
+ They have started to post scheduled maintenance on their site
+ Ticket responses can be very fast
+ No billing errors as yet
    + 100% uptime for April
    + Great value

    Cons:
    - Ticket responses can be very slow
    - Reverse DNS took a couple of weeks to setup
    - Had strange network throttling issue for a few weeks but was eventually corrected.
    - A couple of serious outages
    - My one and only reboot request back in January took ~12 hours
    - Lack of mailing list || forum

another thing, i have server with managed too, i was just wondering, how managed support team identify their customer?

simonhouse, if you let me know your server IP, i believe i can sent reboot ticket and ask them reboot your server too.

    DDoS attack is simple...

    Distributed Denial of Service...

The purpose is to overflow the queue on the system/router/switch to crash all its services enabling the system to be offline (focussing on the end machine). Basically filling up the pipe to deny all incoming and outgoing legitimate connections.

The incoming ips to overflow the pipes are usally hacked and done in an organized way with several hundred or thousand systems all attacking at once, hence DDoS.

    Why?

Maybe a site on that router/switch or patch panel was attacked due to someone not likeing the site, user, or host. No one truely knows why.......but what we do know is this.....

There script kiddies with no life, with nothing better to do than attack legit companys, users or clients.

So, earlier in the post there was a representitive from Managed.com. He/she was wondering who said that. From what I get from this, it wasn't true. Does anybody have any proof that a guy actually tripped over a hub? Or even, that the hub wasn't in a rack?

    Sounds kinda fishy to me....

WTF again? I see this topic is posted at 15-april...

Managed.com should be happy they don't do 99,8% network-uptime or higher.
