    Do you report Spam?

I'm curious who talks the talk walks the walk. I just recently signed up with http://www.spamcop.net 4-09-04 and have successfully reported 30+ spam emails. If it looks like something I didn't subscribe to and I don't want it I submit. How about you?

Yep...every time. Luckily I don't get too much anymore...maybe 1 or 2 a day. I use a free address for all of the sites that I don't have any interest in hearing from later. So far that has worked well.

I would need a full-time assistant if I were to report every spam I got, as it is they just get dropped by my mail server

I would love to. Sadly, I get so many spam e-mails that it would be a total waste of time trying to submit all of them.

Basically, I don't report spam. If there's something outrageous, though, I will go ahead and report it.

Nope... Its been a fruitless effort, then again I receive little email as it is.

Even when I had a hotmail account and got tons of it, submitting spam never did help any. I find it easier to click "delete".

I report some, it'd take too long to report all of them :-(

I do tend to report the pirated software SPAM's to the vendors who are being ripped off.

No I don't report spam as I feel it would hardly make any difference, they would just find some other way of getting their emails through. I don't worry about spam anymore as I have some good spam filters on my ISP.

However something lately has been really ticking me off, on my free Yahoo email address (my primary email) day after day I keep getting email viruses sent through and it is soooo annoying, do you think if I reported it, it would actually stop them for me?

What I really think it is, is someone who has my email stored in their address book has a virus, and the person that is sending them don't know about it, which is why I'm thinking that filing a spam report isn't the best course of action.

I gave up reporting spam a long time ago.

Outlook 2003 catches 99% of my spam. The rest I press "delete"

My opinion is that reporting spam won't do anything to impact the problem. The big companies already know the major spammers; AOL alone filters 2 billion messages a day and can see who's sending messages to thousands or millions of people a day and pursues them through CAN-SPAM. Individuals and small hosts/ISPs don't have the time and resources to track down spammers and sue them... until some realistic solution comes around leave it to the big guys to do what they're already doing, and filter away or ignore it. I'm confident a big change is on the horizon from both Microsoft and AOL, perhaps in the Longhorn or XP SP2 timeperiod.

Yes, but as I see it the IP gets blacklist and wouldn't it send it to your spam box instead of your inbox if its blacklisted? I would assume this is how it works. I get dozens of emails from people and its good to know that i've blacklisted at least 25 ips.

Except that you may be getting innocent persons/businesses IPs blacklisted because their server was exploited. I don't think blacklisting IPs is a good idea at all.

    No.

I don't get a lot of spam, and it's easier just to delete it than report it.

Spam Assassin catches almost all of it, but anything that gets through gets put through SpamCop. I've personally used it for a few years now and my combined reporting time is around 4 hours (including the day or two some waits to get reported).

I have a very low tolerance for junk mail.

I don't have time to report all the spam I get. Besides, if they are true spammers reporting it won't really stop them, it might slow them down for about 3 minutes, but they will jsut use another route to spam again.

I have all my spam blocked before it even gets to my server, let alone email client. So, no, I don't waste any time reporting spam. Blacklists are a waste of time.

    I don't report it, maybe I should?

But I go after Joe Jobs. When I get those bounced back emails I find the server and service they are using and contact them.

for instance I started recieving bounces from what looked (just From: info) from me for penis enlargement pills. Great, what if all my friends get one of these? ambirex, what are you trying to tell me?

found their provider's number and the affiliate program (both had 800 numbers) called and complained. The bounces seemed to stop... hrmmm.
