We have all heard the storys of construction works and people at home chopping and cutting their fingers and other body parts off using different kinds of saws cutting wood.. Check these videos out, They have 3 saws which can detect if the blade hits a finger or flesh for that matter and slams a brake on it..

This is kinda old... I saw this a few years back. On the TV ad, they rolled a hotdog to it and the blade retracted under the saw table; its pretty neat stuff

I wonder how it works..
do they have some kind of sensor on the blade?
or an ir sensor somewhere?

Few problems.. What if your finger makes contact first with the blade before the wood.. Then the saw doesn't know the electrical differnce..

I would assume that the electrical signal as it cuts through the air is roughly the same as when it goes through the wood, so even if it hasn't made contact with wood, it will probably still detect a change.

It would take your finger off and not cut the wood

Watch the videos... It will take the skin off of the hot dog.. Of course on a finger its going to cause more damage as the skin will pull more on a finger.. But I still wouldn't want to test it

That is awesome. But I always just go on, don't let your finger hit the blade.
