    * 26 life sentences.

    http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/index.asp?id=55421

"Britain's Andrew Aston, who clubbed two senior citizens to death during a series of violent robberies was given 26 life sentences on February 20th, 2002. The trial was held at Birmingham Crown Court, UK. Aston battered 24 other victims aged 70 to 90 in their homes over a three month period from January 12th, – 31 March 2001"

26 life sentences. Hmm.. Are they going to clone the guy? They better start today if they want him to be punished well enough.

'Technically' even Gary Ridgeway didn't get that much.

The man authorities dubbed the Green River killer admitted guilt in a Seattle courtroom on Wednesday to 48 murders in a case going back to 1982, making him the nation's deadliest serial killer.

Former truck painter Gary Ridgway, 54, entered into a plea deal that puts more murders on his record than any other serial killer in American history. In exchange, Ridgway avoided a sentence of death and will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.

After reading each of the 48 counts of aggravated murder in the first-degree, the judge asked Ridgway how he wished to plea. After each count, Ridgway said, "Guilty."

You can get out on parole after 14/15 years I think, so I guess this means for him they are making sure it really is life without parole.

Exactly... and he would also be looking at about 26 appeals

I really like your thinking. (wish that could be done... heh, its not a half bad idea)

problem with that is if they run concurrently then he may be able to go for parole in a very short amount of time.

lol, there is psychological anguish aswell. 26 life sentences seems far worse than one.

At least its not 26 death sentences.

its exactly as possible as 26life sentences... (you'll die more then a few times over before your term is up, how is that possible? no logic there...)

1 life sentence is ~30 years and you can get parole in around ~15 years .... anything over 3-5 life sentences will most likely mean you will never get out of prison.

one life sentence is 30 years!?!?!

if this is the case why are people sentenced to 60 years?

A "life sentence" in Canada is equivalent to 25 years, being that if you are in prison for 25 years your life is theoretically over (watch The Shawshank Redemption, you'll understand) but in my books nowhere near long enough.

Sentencing is such a controversial topic no matter where you are. Places in the Middle East and Africa, for example, have punishments for crimes that I would deem to be extreme. But that's me. Anyways, good on England for getting him and for making sure that he goes away.

It would vary from country to country.
