You might want to try a search (here in the forum) for
    tera-byte.com
They have been in business a long time and offer shared and dedicated hosting, and they are located in Canada.

    A few Canuck hosts I have dealt with;

    tera-byte.com (Edmonton)
    telus.com (Vancouver H.O)
    djsearch.ca (Ottawa)
    crystalweb.ca (Edmonton)
    alentus.com (Edmonton)

One of those should be able to meet your hosting requirements.

Thanks for the help guys. I will look into each one. As for telus I refuse to go with them just because of their phone services.

    Thanks again, Jordan

Don't be surprized though, if you find lots of us Canadian Hosting companies have their Servers in the U.S. Seems Canada is still behind in being competitive for Data transfer pricing. First place I looked was local, when thinking about a Data Center, but found it cost almost 6 times the price compared to most places in the U.S.

As speed was not really an issue and in order to be price competitive, it just made more sense to use U.S. services for our Servers. Although I would prefer to use local, I have found that it doesn't matter as to the Data Center location -- as long as the service is good. By extension, the same applies to Hosting companies as well.

    Hi Raxxr,

    Try researching http://www.lfchosting.com .

Read more reviews before you decide to sign up with any host.

Yes Peer1 cost a lot more than what we can get in the USA.

Although it's great quality, most of Canadian hosts put their servers in the USA.

I think I may end up going with tera-byte.com

I'll list some of our requirements for hosting.
    1) 100+ mb of storage space
    2) has to have mySql, php
    3) 10 gb monthly transfer for now
    4) 20+ POP3 emails
    5) 5+ sub domains
    6) fast servers no downtime
    7) good customer support
    8) some sort of admin backend (such as cpanel)
    9) being able to transfer our current domain
    10) centrally located in Canada, since most sales will be done from Canada.

Thats all I can think of.

p.s. Do you guys think it really matters to stay within Canada or should I shoot to a US server?? I have used mediatemple.com before and they seemed quite good. Mind you it was only for a month

Oh so true, and no end in sight yet of that policy.

We used to have our own T1 lines for hosting a few years back, the cost was quite high and after a while we could no longer compete with the hosts using T3 or larger lines in the US, nowadays it's OC48's or larger at the DC's like EV1, etc.

When we went to renegotiate our T1 agreement we were met with a slight decrease in monthly rate, they would pump us up to 10mbit service as well, BUT, we would also be paying per GB and it wasn't cheap, something like $7/GB once we used up whatever base amount we agreed upon which we'd get at around $5/GB.

Needless to say we just dropped the T1 lines entirely and setup US based servers

    networx.com

I use the reseller services of networx.com...which runs about $100 CDN monthly for up to 25 domains with unlimited bandwidth and HD space on an w2k server for our ASP work. This is a "custom" deal, but I do believe that others could get the same as me.

The thing is, we're very small, and most of our clients are in the Golden Horseshoe area -- so when their own power is down, they readily understand that the server is also down....

Anyone care to offer, is this a "good deal?" Care to compare at other shops for same value?

Oh, and we're up about 98% of the time too....nice thing is I can call in direct to the support team via phone...

Keep in mind alot of Canadian hosts in canada run out of American Data Centers. The ones that don't you will pay extremly expensive prices for little space and bandwidth. I am a Canadain host in Ontario but run out of an American data center to stay competitve with other companies. Just some info for you to consider.

Example for you I'm in Hamilton Terabyte is in Toronto 30 min from me but now look at their tracert and you will see what I mean.

NexxAccess, I think you missed this part: edm.tera-byte.com

    Tera-byte is in Edmonton, Alberta.

My personal favorite Canadian Hosting company is actually www.lewismedia.com. They're based in Toronto, but have US servers. I know both Jeff and Joseph, so you wouldn't go wrong with them.

Yeah, i think I could find a good use for one even for my desktop computer. If i were a host however i would kill for one of these.
