So I finally decided about a week ago to do something about the fact that I have been paying too much for my server for way too long now. I've been watching the prices of dedicated servers fall for a year now, and it seems like they have gone as low as they are gonna get. I came across this $29 server from server pronto which I thought was crazy cheap, so I had to call and find out what the catch was because the truth is that if I could get a server for 29 bucks a month, it might compensate for my general laziness on the subject.
Well I found out pretty quick that my dream of dirt cheap was just that when the dude told me that there was a $150 setup fee. The guy pointed out that if you keep the server for a year it adds $12 a month to the server, but as far as I'm concerned setup fees are a jack. So I'm up to what $42 a month, alright fine. In the end I couldn't see how they were any different than anyone else so what the hell, but after seeing some mixed reviews on these guys here in the forum I decided to use my amex card just in case there was any funny business.
In the end cheap is good. I've been monkeying with the box for over a week and the thing works great. I've already transferred some of my customers over without complaint. The contract expired on my primary months ago so I think it's time for a little vanishing act. Better late than never.
not saying serverpronto is good but setups for dedicated servers is not jack in my opinion. You have 1 of 2 choices in most cases a setup a lower monthly or just higher monthly either way you are gonna pay for what that server cost to go out and buy and in all fairness I dont blame the company after all they are looking to make a money. at $29 a month for 200gigs bw if they are getting $30 per mbit thats like $9 profit. That is just paying for the bandwidth alone that server has to be paid for somewhere.
