    moved a swedish sites, now all the symbols are japanese?

    i moved a few swedish sites from my old server onto the new server, to find that all the swedish symbols turned into japanese.

    for instance... this paragraph:
    SPEAK är ett nätverk som vill samarbeta med organisationer och samfund av olika slag. Vi har redan kontakt med flera olika parter och tror att vi tillsammans kommer kunna påverka för Guds skull. Representerar du en organisation är du välkommen att kontakta oss!
    turned into this:
    SPEAK 䲠ett n䴶erk som vill samarbeta med organisationer och samfund av olika slag. Vi har redan kontakt med flera olika parter och tror att vi tillsammans kommer kunna p嶥rka f?uds skull. Representerar du en organisation 䲠du v䬫ommen att kontakta oss!
    several of the symbols turned into stuff like: 堲 堼

    anyone know what in the world is going on?

    old server: http://www.longingboy.com/speak/news.php
    new server: http://www.speak.nu

    If you have static html documents it couldn't be the server, more likely your browser...

    Anyway, to ensure a proper character set you should have something like this in your document code:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-2" />

    If you have dynamic pages like php / mysql stuff, then it could be your server, perhaps there's some language problem, if that's possible

    If this hasn't helped you, I hope, it gave you an idea at least...

    Regards, Airnine

    We had this with a portugese site a few weeks back, if you go digging in php.ini, uncomment:

    default_charset = "iso-8859-1"

    And this should fix it, it did for us.

    perhaps it has something do to with the files them-selves? maybe you should take one of the html files and run it from some place else

    now, I don't know how the files were put together, but if someone was using a simple texteditor an improper character set would have done exactly this, perhaps someone saved it as ascii, but should have used utf-8 or something like that, I'm not saying exactly that, but something like that,

    try downloading one of the files to your local machine and run it using a browser, if it still happens to display wrong then it must be the file was saved using some coding different from what you are using now

    let us know
