Woohoo! Got it working!
Not sure wat I did but I restored it using the Raq4 OSRCD then did the steps again, this time choosing YES to Erase and Rebuild. The Raq restarted a few times and I left it connected to the crossed cable computer. Then finally the LCD said "SYSTEM POWERING DOWN" for around 15 minutes, I turned off the switch and on and it's up!

Hmm... if the RaQ 4 OSRCD worked, then the ROM had not been flashed before. The RaQ 4 CD won't work if you have the 2.9.x ROM installed...
Anyway, glad it's working now...http://www.lamphowto.com/ - LAMP and LAMP+SSL HowTo

Raq4 Upgrade
I was trying to upgrade RAQ4 to RAQ550. i read all this postings and started the urgrade. I downloaded the ISO from sun's website and burned a bootable CD. I tested the CD on my PC and it works. I am using a PC with windows 2000 and a linksys NIC. i bootup the PC put the CD in CDROM then connect this PC to Cobalt 4 with crossover. When i tell RAQ4 to boot from net nothing happens. NIC lights are green on PC and RAQ4 but nothing happens. Can any one help me with this. did i miss anything? any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

The OSRCDs are very picky about the NICs they will work with.
If you press Alt+F8 on your PC after answering the license question while booting up the OSRCD you will see info about the NIC drivers being loaded or not. When you do a netboot on the RaQ, you should see DHCP requests coming into the PC and being answered; if you don't see that, the NIC is not working.http://www.lamphowto.com/ - LAMP and LAMP+SSL HowTo

I have a RaQ4i that was in process of getting the 550 OS upgrade done, but I am having problems midway through the upgrade. It would get to the XFSprogs rpm and Halt, saying found CPIO:. I let the OSRCD flash the rom for me and it installed 2.9.36.
What do I need to do to correct this?
Thanks

Well after multiple attempts, I now have a blue boat anchor. The lcd screen only shows black boxes when it attempts to boot. I have a raq3 now that I'm running RaQ4 software on. I doubt I'll try the 550 on this one.
Since I'm just playing with spare raqs, I may send the motherboard out on the 4 to get the chip replaced in a couple of months.

I too am trying to upgrade a Raq3 to a 4. If I use the crossover cable through a PC to the 3, and use my Raq4 restore CD in the PC, will it update the 3's ROM and do the proper install if I use the 3's "startup - boot off the network" option?
I know how to install a pkg but am not a Linux wiz...
Thank you

There is no ROM upgrade required to install the RaQ 4 OS on a RaQ 3, only if you are going to the RaQ 550 OS.
Yes, just follow the same procedure with the RaQ 4 OSRCD. Make sure that if it's a single drive RaQ 3 that you only use the RaQ 4 or RaQ 4i OSRCD, not the RaQ 4r OSRCD -- that expects 2 drives to set up RAID 1, and will choke on a single drive system.http://www.lamphowto.com/ - LAMP and LAMP+SSL HowTo

Hi Guys, I am a newb and I just wanted to ask you all what you thought of the new Strongbolt software on www.osoffice.co.uk ?
Has anyone used it? It looks really good.
I want to get an idea of others before I try it myself.
Cheers

When doing this upgrade, can I install all updates and bug fixes provided for Apache via BlueLinq by Sun ?
Or would this overwrite important parts of that package ?SunnyScript (CGI scripts, custom software development) - http://www.sunnyscript.com
