My server also crashes nightly. I recently installed the latest version of BFD, and when i did a reboot while my server was overloading.. but my server completly crashed. I was able to ping it, but nothing worked such as webpages, shell or anything. I called the datacenter and they fixed it. They said it looked like either my iptables or APF was preventing access to system services when it started up such as shell, etc.. They turned it off.. rebooted the server and everything is working. I'm kinda scared to turn APF back on. I've doubled checked the APF settings, and had a server management company check it as well, and everything looks correct in the config.
When a serverload is high, the processor would help it more then RAM correct?
I don't have SSH restricted to one IP as my home comp has a dynamic IP, and i have several system administrators that log in as well. When BFD was upgrade, and i rebooted my server, it locked me out of all services like SSH, Cpanel, my server was basically one but i couldn't do nothing with it.. not even view webpages.
SSH doesn't even connect, i get a error saying it cant be reached. The datacenter needed to connect a mouse and keyboard to it because they couldn't get in shell either. They said it was either the iptables or APF that was preventing access to everything when the server booted.
