    Managed.com canceled my server? WTF

I've had a server with managed for 6 months now. First I had hosting with SagoNet and they were good until they started charging me for no reason, extra money for this, for this, for this, and it ended up being 400 $ per month !! So i canceled that server and moved to managed.com. I had downtime once with them and that was for 2 hours only. Sounds good I know, but here is what happens next. Yesterday I was updating my server and i went out to buy me something to eat. I came back and I couldn't access my server. I called them, they don't answer (usually, they NEVER do). So i e-mailed them and asked to reboot my server. This is the e-mail that I got back:

Jack Peterson has responded to your help desk request.

    Hello,

A reboot is not possible because server 65.75.146.180 is listed as cancelled.

WTF? How could i call and cancel my server If i wasn't even home? Their security is 0, total 0. If they continue like this, somebody will call and cancel 50 servers they will not know it's the same person canceling all the servers. This is ridiculous!!!

I'm looking for another dedicated hosting right now. I usually stay with a company until they start doing things like this. My specs are as follows:

<< Please use the host quote feature for requests >>

P.S. NEVER GO WITH MANAGED.COM, THEY CAN ONLY RUIN YOUR SERVER, NOTHING ELSE!!!!

For the Managed.com thing, they are very unorganized there. I think you just need to get lucky . As for the reccomendation for servers, i'd suggest ServerMatrix. Although you are asking for a bit too much for very little. They are not GREAT support but they aren't bad. Only takes about 15 minutes for a reboot. They guarantee 2 rings on the phone and have a SLA for that.

You're not going to get 1GB RAM AND three 120GB HDs for that price. You'll be lucky if you can get 1GB RAM and one 120GB HD for that price. With my reseller discount at two budget hosts, my price is closer to $180+/month.

and you did not ask them how it was canceled, like how did you know it was canceled with a call while you were out.

some more facts will help more.

Also the support doesn't have to be the same minute, 15 - 30 minutes after my request is fine. But with managed.com it takes 7 days to do what i asked for.

Do you absolutely need 1GB RAM and three 120GB HDs? If so, expect to pay for quality. If you don't want to pay for quality, you'll end up being screwed again. With 1GB RAM, a P4 2.4 processor, and three 120GB HDs, that machine will probably cost around or above $1,000, most companies like to break even on hardware costs within 3-4 months.

I don't really need 1 GB of ram, 512 GB is fine also but I do need 3 x 120 GB , I already have 2 x 120 gb on this managed.com server and they are full. I will have to transfer all that data to the new server i get. I already talked to MakoSolutions and I think it will be around $160/monthly with 1 GB of ram. I will be looking maybe i will find some other once for $140 if not, i am getting this MakoSolutions server.

Can you deal with a Celeron processor? If so, that might bring down the cost for providers that you're looking at.

Yea, Celeron is fine with me.

hmm, thats strange because everytime I send them an email, I get response within an hour....

They dont cancel your server just like that, are you sure you didnt send them a cancellation email? :-)

Because you know they dont like to cancel servers either. Thats were they make profit.

contacting them nicely would help, btw if you call them up on Business Hours, somebody picks up the phone, how can you not get a response?

    Hello,

I've received an e-mail today that my account was canceled. I've never called Managed.Com
to cancel my account nor I have a reason to cancel my account. If anybody can just
call, tell the IP of the server and get it canceled then what kind of security do
you guys have? This is ridiculous! I want my server reactivated asap, and I want
to say that next time you should ask for a SSN at least before doing anything like
this. If you have recorded the voice of the person that called and canceled my server
I would like to start a trace on that. Please reactivate my server asap!

    > Server IP: 65.75.146.180
    > IP Range: 65.75.146.180 -- 65.75.146.189

That's the e-mail i've sent to them. Also I've faxed them a similar paper that i wrote.

Well, I'm not sure, if they cancelled your server, they first thing they would do it to format the hard drive << you will lose what you had in there.

Verifying SSN is not possible since they dont ask for it in the sign up form, and it will be too personal.

hate to say this, but you will probably have to wait until monday to get a reply.

yeah, I agree, something is missing from this plot. A server of those specs couldn't host 300gb + of web content or even gaming server maps and mods. Plus wanting to add another 100gb. FTP dumps are one of those things you'll find cut without warning.

One question, if it is not indiscret...what sort of content are you hosting ? is it warez? or illegal content?

Managed.com doesn't do content restriction on LEGAL content, but they don't allow any sort of illegal content like warez or illegal porn.
    Have a good day.

When he insists of 3x120GB, I already smell something fishy! Why would one ever need that much space? Take him anyone as you wish, I think it'll do you more harm than good. Oh well, I can understand why managed.com cancelled his server, his story doesn't make up and make sense, why would a host cancel a server of its paying customers, you know it! Good luck for the host he is going to host next!

  24. #24
He already said it was legal MP3s which would clearly explain why he needs so much space.

Why don't you try asking managed.com about the cancellation on their support forums?

    (i) Utilize the Services to copy material from third parties (including text, graphics, music, videos or other copyrightable material) without proper authorization.
That was from their AUP, and maybe it refers to proper authorization by THEM to allow you to host ANY MP3's on their servers.
