How to avoid tons of Spam, feel free to add to this thread!
The reason why some people get tons of Spam is because they reply to them. Some people unknowingly reply to Spam giving their email addresses away when they either investigate the Spam by clicking on the site link provided, replying back with an email telling them to stop spamming you or asking them questions, or clicking on the unsubscribe option on the bottom of the email, then their email address is verified as active and shared or sold to other Spammers.
Oh yeah, one more thing, simply opening up email which is Spam could also verify your email address to Spammers if the email is written in HTML.
So, to sum it up, donít open Spam, donít reply to it, and donít click on any links, specially the unsubscribe button. Report the Spam and delete it!
I'm not sure where to post this How-To since it's unrelated to most forums, maybe the WebHostingTalk Lounge would be a good place for it.
I didn't get spam emails in 3 months. I have no idea why I got so lucky. what I use is thunderbird and spam assassin on the server.
at first I used to get spam, but the filters I setup with thunderbird kicked in after a few weeks, and I kept getting less and less of it, and now I dont get any at all.
great point you made, when you see a spam email dont even read it, just delete it, if you show signs of life from your email address you'll be bombarded with it.
another point is to not enter your main email anywhere, and I mean anywhere! set yourself up with a secondary one, and when you need to fill a form with an email address fill in the second one.
can't think of anything else, and cant promise it will work either. I know that a lot of people do the same as me and still get spam. I'm very lucky... (however I get spammed on AIM instead, guess thats life. )

More than any time in history mankind faces a crossroads.
One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness, the other to total extinction.
Let us pray that we have the wisdom to choose correctly.
you could always try a solution like mailblocks dot com. Their absolute spam protection is a bit harsh, but it works. And I always check the Pending every once and awhile to see if I see an email address I know, but they never filled out the form.
Yes.......the problem is that most of the people that spam "works" on are those with little computer skills. So, make sure you teach your grandma/grandpa/uncle, etc the evils of spam....as soon as everyone starts deleting spam as soon as they get it, the faster spam will go away.
