I'm putting together a business website and am moving between Dreamweaver and Frontpage to create it. However I want to add a shopping cart and at the moment have Miva Merchant. Does anyone recommend something better? Easier to integrate with site? This is for a brick and mortar that has been in business for 32 years so I need something reliabe.
osCommerce can accept templates to integrate into your existing site. It's quite stable and relatively easy to use. Being open source it's possible for you to write bad code and break it like any other solution. Stick to the regular tested contributions and you should be good.
osCommerce would be a good choice. There are lots of other good options as well... X-Cart, SiteDirector and others.

SO I should forgo Miva Merchant as I am paying monthly and don't even have the site running integrated with the shopping cart. Should I forgo Miva and my hosting company for the are providing Miva for me to use.
I want the easiest to use and operate. The number one priority is that the shopping experience for customers is A1. A nice cpanel for me to work through, to
create the catalog as we will have about 500 products on line, maybe less. We are in the scale business so I'm trying to find out how this will all work out.
Since I'm considering moving out of Valueweb in order to get a dedicated server...a fully managed on that is. I'm leaning toward ocommerce and dome others. I just want the best. This business has been around for 35 years and I can't mess this up.
This is not on topic: but if anyone out there would like to pm me or talk here regarding moving hosts getting dedicated and finding the best shopping cart software and cred card processing ...
I'm tired right now...all I know is I have 30 days to work this out and I have to have the site up running and selling its products!
I am also a newbi on ecommcerce / credit online orders. I checked out miva and really didn't like what they had to offered. (tied into earthlink and im sure other bad hosting companies) Im going to check the osCommerce. Thank
YES, try OSCommerce! It is great. Be sure to add the STS modification to a fresh install. The STS mod will allow you to implement your own look and modify with a single HTML file! I LOVE THAT MOD! Once done you just add products and have a nice database driven web site with your own look and feel.
Think there is no best sulution for ecommerce, depends on the particular company using it.
A combined CMS/ecommerce solution makes keeping the site and the shop updated an easier task.
One of these combinations is the abarcar.com software
