I bought the monthly version of CE on March 17th. I've been working on it for a while now, and realized that it's not what I need. What I need is coming out in version 1.2, so I submitted a ticket and told them all this, and said I won't be renewing my license until 1.2. I said all this politely.
26 hours later I got an email that simply said:
Your account has been cancelled.
I went to the website where my CE was hosted, and it said I had an invalid license. Wonderful...
They deactivated my license as soon as they found out I won't be renewing it, which is absolutely ridiculous, because they're TOS says:
3. Cancelation of Leased License
Cancelation of Leased Licenses needs to be submitted via support ticket no later then 48 hours prior to their next payment due date. No refunds will be provided on payments already withdrawn, unless notification was submitted 48 hours prior.
Where does it say that the deactivation takes effect immediately? I'm not a big fan of companies that do this, but I know CitadelHost does. Look at their TOS:
1. Request for termination of user accounts can be made by emailing [email protected] requesting for cancellation.
2. Termination requests received will take effect immediately , that means you're not required to pay for web hosting plan fee for that month, if termination request is received after the fee charged in that month, which is not refundable, that means starting from the following month you will not be charged for web hosting fees.
What the heck? I want my 13 days back (April 4-April 17), or a complete refund!
Regardless, the company is arrogant and not to be trusted and should be put into your black book. keep well away from these types and hopefully they will go out of business or they will learn to pick up their game. There are plenty of alternatives than to risk your hard earned cash with a shonk. I would feel very uneasy if I had a hosting account with them. Its no good coming on these forums and saying it was a mistake after reading this thread, the man wrote to you and you did nothing which is what I would expect of an arrogant untrustworthy business ( and I use the word business loosely). My $10 worth.
Thanks, I'm glad you guys agree with me. I can't really think of anything to do now . I can't sue them for $10, and they won't reply to my emails, so, I'm stuck. Do you think submitting a Paypal dispute would help?
The reason that I do not use Paypal is because they are very free with offering refunds for services, even ones that users actually pay for and receive.
Back when I did accept Paypal, we ran in to a pretty popular scam. A user would sign up, load their account up with warez and porn (basically using it as a dump), and when they were notified to either remove the material, or get cancelled, they would wind up getting canceled. Less than a day later, we received a letter from Paypal saying that a refund was issued because a user did not receive what they paid for. The customer told Paypal, of course, that we did not provide ANY service at all, not that they violated our TOS and had their account cancelled. On top of that, Paypal suspended our account.
So, to make a long story short, you should be able to get things done with a Paypal dispute. Write Paypal an e-mail, it is not like it would put you out anything.
Sorry for the confusion. I must admit that the response was a bit short, but it was a misunderstanding. It was believed that you were cancelling your license with us. Once we get the request we deactivate it right away so we don't forget. We don't have the means to tell our license manager to deactivate after so many days.
But we will extend your license however many days you missed if you still wanted to use it. We do not offer refunds for our leased license as mentioned in the terms of service.
I have not received any emails from you, but you could send them to me directly at [email protected] so they don't have to be discussed in the open.
Thanks for your understanding. Again, we just thought you wanted to cancel your license and at times we do take cancelation requests via email if we can confirm the email address.
