    DB one size only !!!

I sometime try to take DB files for my client using this code

    mysqldump -u root -p XXXXXXX >name_db.sql

but all times the DB (sql file) = size 6KB only !! and the real DB size = 15MB

    any idea ??

You need to specify the database(s) you want to dump:

    > mysqldump -uroot -p --all-databases > all-databases-040405.sql

    > mysqldump -uroot -p some_database > some_database_040405.sql

Note also that I did not include the password in the command, used just the -p. After pressing Enter, you can enter your password. This is really important if you are working on a server with other users because a less privileged user looking at, say, 'top' could see your root password!

[This was to correct an error in my above post, but it was less confusing to edit the first message...but I can't delete this one!]
