This is quite amusing. I have no idea how this happened, but I've never really trusted Alexa. They are often given more credit than they deserve with their traffic ranking.

EDIT: My guess is that they were buying insane amount of pop-up driven traffic and then stopped at some point.

Best,

#32 of all the sites on the Web, even when judged by Alexa, is a huge amount of traffic to be buying from anywhere. I want some of that.

I know what you mean. No matter how much he was buying, #32 is too big to be true. Which proves once again - Alexa is far from accurate.

That'd be an insane amount of traffic to purchase... It must be a mistake?

There's one review of the site on Alexa, from a guy who saw it all the time in popups. He said on popups of his bank's site even, which made me think adware/spyware campaigns, but software doesn't usually open the windows in IE, they just use a browser component in one of their windows, so it wouldn't register on Alexa... that means they had to have bought millions of popups a month, damn.

Aren't there companies out there that for a price can artificially inflate your Alexa rating? I heard of one well know host who had this done.

Same here; I don't trust their guess on traffic.

Have to admit though, sometimes, their guesses are pretty good.

yes there is like 2 programes that claim to incress your alexa rating and there like 1 week free demo but what the do is use around 1000 proxys to access your site with build in alexa spycode but i didnt feal they realy work. they may incress your ranking but not by much. plus they will overload your server because they act like a dos attck with all that http requests

I don't trust alexa at all, my ranking is all over the place but I always get a steady amount of visitors.

Yeah, I noticed that with HTTPme's Alexa ranking. One minute it's 24,000, then next week it's 30,000. It's back around the 24,000 mark now. Another host I remember was 18,000 a while back, and now they're over 30,000.

Oh how we get all riled up by a rating someone places on our sites.
