Has anyone utilized any proactive sales services for their hosting company? I believe that rackshack.net (or is it ev1servers now?) initiates chat sessions with potential customers and has been quite successful.
Has any instituted a sales system like this for your site, and if so, did you outsource it, or keep it inhouse?
I have a fulltime job so it'd be nice if I could contract this work out to get things off the ground.
We do it too I must say it does help, but now a days 50-70% of web surfers use popup blockers so the chat popup is suppressed by these popup blockers.
Some visitors like proactive chat and were happy with instant sales answers while others said its not good you guys and ignored and left
So mixed feelings, depending upon each visitors personal preference

I have used this, potential customers were not very happy when contacted, therefore I decided to let them initiate the conversation and finally given up and posted in the header our phone number and YM ID with much better results than before.
I have noticed also that the system was used by visitors wanting to see if this really function and not comitted to a purchase or at least discuss about a potential purchase. Therefore, I don't think that the use of live chat scripts is very useful for sales purposes.

As a user, I like it, but not when I have only been on the site for 2 seconds. Its like going into a clothing store and as soon as you walk in, some guy runs up in front of you and asks if he can help you. i think there is a proper amount of time to wait. And most of these programs can now detect how long the user is on the site and how many pages they have seen. you can then make that determination.
We usually initiat a chat after about 10 minutes or so on the site. Let them look around for a bit and find what type of plan they are looking for. I have chatters compliment this service all the time. Please like to get answers to their questions instantly, not through email.
Yes that's reasonable. If someone were to spend that much time on a website, odds are they are interested and would like to learn more. I know honestly that I would like to be able to browse the website for the first little bit without chatting with someone. I don't get the feeling that I'm in the minority either.
I think for the most part people would be like to left alone, however, I'm sure that it does generate sales for some.
