    Friend Got scammed

My friend got scammed big time several months ago and recently told me about it, it almost seems like he is not taking it seriously and writing it off as a loss. Here is his situation...

    ---

I got ripped off by Chris Gotzmann Treto. He bought a PIX firewall from me and paid via PayPal. PayPal reversed the payment and I can't get my money back because UPS did not get a signature when the delivered the item. Needless to say I'm trying now to recover my $2,235. I found 2 others who were burned by Chris Gotzmann Treto as well.

    ----

I was wondering what you guys would recommend I do to encourage him to pursue this, and how he could pursue this considering there was no signature and paypal sux. SHould he just write it off as a loss to this guy as the cost of doing business online?

What would you do in this situation?

    a story

The required signature option is not PayPal's fault. Actually you are suppose to ask for that since you are sending $2,000+ item. Can't blame others for that..

If this guy has your equipment than you can use the local sherif's department for that... I've heard about some similar cases...

Umm.. if it's insured for that much, doesn't UPS by default require a signature for that? I would find out more about that... unless of course, it wasn't sent insured that way.

No signature, no payment, tell them he stole it!! There's no proof he bought it, nor proof you sold it

    thanks,
Find your UPS shipping receipt and file for loss item. They never got a signer (I assume it required one) and the buyer apparently is saying he never got it. So it is a loss on UPS.

it is a loss on UPS but UPS won't give you $2,000 without insurance, if you had insurance they will defenetly won't "leave behind the door"

    Doing bus requires common sense..

With transactions like that I either prefer to do it person to person or a straight money-into-bank transfer (if you can do that in America)

Hopefully he wasn't that stupid to decline shipping insurance on a $2 thousand item.

We need a black list somewhere on the web, anyone want to work with me to build a black list? This is the one thing that sux about the internet, you can't make any mistakes or do things the easy way or you will pay the price, but in an other sense its good that we strive to stay on our toes.

I just noticed this thread, hope it isn't too late to reply.

If anyone has been scammed by e7web/domains, over domain name registration or renewal, and you'd like to join a potential class action lawsuit - please email me.

We are currently putting together information and working with an attorney on behalf of our customers and ourselves regarding some domain name registration issues.

Nobody is going to get rich off this lawsuit, but it does have a real potential of making sure the key players are held accountable for their actions if found guilty.

Ever get scammed on the Internet???

    I did.

I got scammed big time by Mike Anderson of e7web and Chris Gotzmann Treto.

It all started out when I made a post on several discussion forums looking to setup a sharing server, within a

short time I was contacted by Chris Gotzman Treto and he spoke to me on AOL IM, he convinced me in no time he was

legit, this was back in late fall 2003. So I made the payment, got some excuses about powerfailures, ultimately

never got my server. I paid for the server with my LEGIT paypal account, and account I have had for 3 years with no

problems. I even have a verified paypal.com email account. After contacting paypal about never getting my server

they told me that a server is INTANGABLE and that I would not get a refund.

When I disputed this Chris Gotzmann Treto and Mike Anderson said I was trying to setup a sharing server which is

illegal. They won that dispute, but first tricked me into thinking they would give me what I want with no problems.

They do this same stuff to a lot of people.

my loss: $208.00 and a boatload of grief!

    Mark

Chris Gotzman Treto: yup, ok, just get back to me
Chris Gotzman Treto: well since warez is illegal, i cant go around admitting i agreed to let him have warez....
NeedsHosting: you specifically brought it up
    NeedsHosting: he never mentioned warez
    NeedsHosting: you did
Chris Gotzman Treto: how else am i supposed to discredit someone?
Chris Gotzman Treto: hes accusing us of scamming him....
Chris Gotzman Treto: thats not very good for our image now is it
NeedsHosting: uve been up for 8 months?
    NeedsHosting: whois on racksmart.net
    NeedsHosting: says otherwise
    Chris Gotzman Treto: previously rackedge.com
NeedsHosting: why did u switch names after 8 months?
Chris Gotzman Treto: we bought racksmart
Chris Gotzman Treto: and decided to use their domain
    NeedsHosting: instead of rackedge?
    Chris Gotzman Treto: yah
NeedsHosting: why the name change in only 6 months?
Chris Gotzman Treto: like i said
Chris Gotzman Treto: we bought out racksmart
Chris Gotzman Treto: and decided to use their name
NeedsHosting: you bought out a company that has only been in business for few months based on whois info?
    NeedsHosting: and changed names?
Chris Gotzman Treto: they had a bunch of high end corporate clients and we decided to keep the name for the rep
    Chris Gotzman Treto: yup
Chris Gotzman Treto: whats so bad about that?
    NeedsHosting: just curious
Chris Gotzman Treto: and since when does a whois on a domain, specify how long a companys been in business
Chris Gotzman Treto: we've also bought out e7web.com
NeedsHosting: well i figure a company on the internet
NeedsHosting: probably has a web site
NeedsHosting: what other companies did u buy out?
Chris Gotzman Treto: I think thats it off the top of my head, I only do sales
NeedsHosting: what clients do u have
NeedsHosting: that I can check out their sites
    NeedsHosting: and ping their servers
    Chris Gotzman Treto: www.uraniumgamers.com
    NeedsHosting: any others?
    NeedsHosting: any warez sites?
Chris Gotzman Treto: i dont know any others
Chris Gotzman Treto: no warez sites that i know of
NeedsHosting: so if i hosted with u
NeedsHosting: i would be the only one?
Chris Gotzman Treto: no one comes to us and specifically asks for warez usually
Chris Gotzman Treto: the only one that i know of
Chris Gotzman Treto: im sure theres probably others
NeedsHosting: but u do host warez
    NeedsHosting: servers
NeedsHosting: u just don't have any right now
Chris Gotzman Treto: we let people rent servers
Chris Gotzman Treto: what they do with them is not our business
NeedsHosting: what would it take for u to shut down a warez server?
Chris Gotzman Treto: a ton of complaints for spamming or open proxy
NeedsHosting: Why cant I pay with credit card on warez server?
NeedsHosting: because i could charge back?
    Chris Gotzman Treto: yes
Chris Gotzman Treto: and since you are hosting warez, which in itself is illegal
NeedsHosting: so how do i protect myself if I pay you with paypal and don't get a server
Chris Gotzman Treto: theres even a greater chance you will
Chris Gotzman Treto: you can reverse payment
NeedsHosting: paypal allows people to reverse on dedicated servers?
    Chris Gotzman Treto: i suppose
Chris Gotzman Treto: i have an amd2600+ with 1gb ddr pc2700 ram i can get you right now
Chris Gotzman Treto: which is already up
    NeedsHosting: im interested
NeedsHosting: but if paypal allows one to reverse
NeedsHosting: why would u allow someone to pay with paypal
    Chris Gotzman Treto: 69.50.187.46
Chris Gotzman Treto: its faster than cc
Chris Gotzman Treto: merchant accounts take up to 2 weeks, etc
Chris Gotzman Treto: btw that amd2600 has windows 2000 on it
    NeedsHosting: ok
NeedsHosting: who do i send money too
    Chris Gotzman Treto: sec
Chris Gotzman Treto: i gotta make a link to order for billing system
NeedsHosting: gimme an email for paypal
NeedsHosting: by the way what is your full name?
Chris Gotzman Treto: Chris Gotzman Treto gotzmann
NeedsHosting: Chris Gotzman Tretos Gotzmann Treto?
    Chris Gotzman Treto: yah
NeedsHosting: is that your real name?
Chris Gotzman Treto: Treto is my wifes last name
    NeedsHosting: who runs racksmart.net
    NeedsHosting: and owns
Chris Gotzman Treto: I forget his last name, first name is Josh though
    NeedsHosting: who is Mike Anderson
    NeedsHosting: or Matthew Anderson

    e7web.com = 69.57.179.74 - Web server hosts 42 websites

Yeah, guess where Matthew C. Anderson...formerly subcontracted employee of AffordableHOST, Inc...managed to pick up 42 hosting customers as well as countless domain names (we'll never know the full number) mysteriously pushed into his eNom account from ours.

When confronted, his excuse was "A friend was playing a joke on me and when I left the room he pushed all those domain names into my eNom account."

How many did he return? Four. How many are we still finding out about? Approximately 1 a week since last November.

Also several of our "QuickStart" hosting customers, who are now hosting with them, told us that they were told Matthew purchased our hosting company and moved their sites/files over to him...and now they pay him. Looks like he took the domain names into his eNom account, created accounts on his servers for them and then updated the nameservers via eNom to point to them.

I have to say, Matthew worked for us for quite awhile and it took me months to get over being extremely hurt and feeling betrayed. At this point, I'm just pissed.

I think the way you are looking at it is that metaphorically speaking someone was trying to buy an ounce of weed from a drug dealer, and the drug dealer robs the customer - so ultimately the laugh is on the customer for wanting to buy illegal drugs in the first place.

Not exactly the situation here. I am posting the information given to me by individuals, and I would like others who have been ripped off to email me and I will post their story online. So far 3 people have contacted me and I am happy to now provide them with hosting solutions.

The individual who got ripped was trying to setup a file sharing server, not necessarily a warez server. The goal was to setup a server for providing people with access to P2P software, information on file sharing, a forum on file sharing, chatrooms, free hosting and any other interactive scripts and mailing lists that could be installed etc.. if anything it was conspiracy to help others possibly get warez, but never to outright advocate or carry the warez itself.

Chris Gotzmann Treto will tell paypal they (including everyone who tries to setup with him) wanted to setup a warez server to prevent refunds when he rips them off and then tell the world that the paypal account they used was stolen. Total BS.

The next day, contacting Chris Gotzman Treto, I played the warez server card just to see how it would play out.

It is quite the giggle to have someone offer you a warez server and then rip you off.

I guess there can be no sympathy there.

But three people personally contacted me about getting ripped off by this guy over hardware, software, paypal and hosting issues, and I will continue to post those stories and emails of people who contact me, and give those who have been ripped off cheap hosting.

If anyone else got ripped off out there and wants to be anonymous, email me and i'll post your story.

Really unfortunate for you to get into this kind of rip off case.
