It is very sad. I was close to Chernobyl too and it is a dead place. Only few people are still living in that area.

Wasn't this on slashdot over 2 weeks ago? I went through them. (The pictures, not the words.) It's pretty amazing.
Here: March 26th; Seems like so long ago.

Saw that a while ago.
Crazy stuff though.
Also, the lady must have been insane. Its like walking in a landmine... the radiation is still there!
Also, since those pics are of chernobyl, check out Stalker, a new game coming out that is situated in Chernobyl.

Up until now I had only seen small pictures and read only what could be found online or in magazines. Since I was too young to remember Chernobyl, it has always fascinated me. Thanks for sharing this link...the pictures really do speak for themselves. I'm not sure if I would have the guts to even set foot anywhere near where such a place.
Regards,
Waylon

She says her dad was nuclear physicist, and there is not much radiaton on the road, she must know what she is doing. She says that its relatively safe there.

There was a whole discussion at /. (slashdot) about how safe it was for her. It got into mathematics and nuclear health discussion and etc., but basically they agreed it was safe-ish.

If you read some of the text there. (Not sure if anyone reads anymore or just looks at the pictures) She said the middle of the road is safe because it is asphalt. If you went 3-10 meters of the road and stay there for a few hours you will die. The "Magic Forest" bit is cool, she was saying how not even the bravest scientists that wear suits would step there.
The radiation will die in 48,000 years and it will be livable in about 1,000 years. (She says 300-600 but everyone calls his optimistic.) I was also too young when it happened to remember. About 100 miles away when going to Oregon there is an old silo, which is cool to look at. Also over in Eastern Washington is is Standford Nuclear Plant. Three Mile Island is also a good read.Don't look for a way out.
