If any colocation professionals would like to shed some light on the subject I would like to know what they think about 1U and 2U servers, I have purchased a couple but always love to hear other peoples views.
We have tried most of the 1U cases on the market to find that you get poor cooling and design unless you are paying $150-200/unit. A fellow I was referred to completed all designs for racksaver.com's equipment line and designed us a 1U chassis that we are now manufacturing. It offers good cooling, the ability to accept up to 3 disks, or 2 HDs, floppy and slim cdrom. Each chassis includes a Zippy power supply that we have found over the years to be the most reliable. There is some flexibility in bulk orders.
heh. Of all the small little networks Ive setup I dont think I ever ventured away from Zippy in rackmounts. Old buddy of mine swore by em so I always thought they were good. Glad to see someone support that :p
"we are now manufacturing" - as in selling them? or in the process of having them built? If you have a link or email of this person Id love to take a look. Thanks.
As of now they are being manufactured and used for our own dedicated and shared hosting servers and some sold to a few close partners. We've built about 100 so far and gone through a couple revs.
No links or pics yet but I will get some up over the next week as I know its hard to get a decent 1U case for a good price and it would be helpful. Send quantity requests over, as well as required PS wattage and I'll let you know the options available.
Alright thanks gTyler.
Keep me(or us) posted on news with the site+specs+pics. I dont have a large need for them right now, so wont waste your time with my piddly need. Might pick up within the next couple months though as far as getting some new equipment. Getting tired of having to piece together what I can find without losing an arm and a leg for just the case(no p/s)
