I'm an independent site designer currently hosting 7 domains through a reseller account with a host I'd rather not name. I've been searching for a new host for quite a long time. Does anyone have any experience with TVCNet (http://www.tvcnet.com)? I searched the past posts but could not find any information on them.

I've been lurking in these forums for months now. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. You have saved me from making some horrible mistakes!

Looks pretty shadey.

I usually shy from sites that have explicit testemonial areas. Seems really sleazy ... buut I am also a cynic.

the membership fee is what I didn't like the most

if you have been lurking then you have probably seen some very nice resellers. I would do a search on reseller in the top left search button and you will find a whole bunch.

here are the ones I remember
hostrocket
webexpose.net

Well their IPs are listed as belonging to Exodus and a trace shows they are connected via them.

Please pardon my ignorance, but is this a good thing or a bad thing? From the other info I could find on Exodus, it seems like it might be a good thing. (But what do I know?? That's why I'm here!)

Thanks!

Smile

AboveNet has one of the best backbones, and Exodus hosts servers for many of largest web sites.

Of course, being co-located with some of the best companies in the e-business means nought if you can't access their site properly and non-existent customer service exists (no pun intended). I'd suggest avoiding this company until they get their act together (at least in terms of the site and TOS)

I thought I should post an update. I decided to move my domains over to TVCNet http://www.tvcnet.com and I'm very, very glad that I did. I have a great account that gives me everything I need, and the features and prices are excellent. Yes, I had to contact them for reseller prices, but at least my clients don't have easy access to that price list. And the membership fee includes the cost of my own site hosting -- it's less than I was paying with my former host.

I agree that TVCNet's site is confusing. It's hard to find the info that you need. But under that web site is a great company. I'm impressed with the server speed and reliability. I have Net Whistle running on most of my domains. With my former provider I was getting two or three notices a day that my sites were down. With TVCNet I haven't had a single alert (I'm ready to cancel Net Whistle).

I have to say that I am amazed at their customer service. I can't say I put too much weight on testimonials, but now I understand why people send them. When I registered with TVCNet, I got a phone call (an hour or so later) from Jim Walker who reviewed everything about how their system works. I still proceeded to make some really stupid mistakes, but they walked me through the solutions without making me feel like an idiot (they were REALLY stupid mistakes).

I've had so many bad experiences with web hosts that it's nice to be able to pass on a good reference for once. I've only been with them for a few weeks, but I would highly recommend TVCNet.
