    WHT newsletter (small error)

Well, i just got my first sp.. er, newsletter from WHT

I think it's a great idea, just a small error at the bottom:

you have received this e-mail at %email%
And it looks nice and pretty but did you not consider that some people don't/can't receive HTML emails? it's a bit of a mess viewing it in an account that doesn't.

    Loon,

Almost said that sp word, didn't ya?

Yes, we are aware of the error, hopefully corrected on most of the e-mails, and sorry in advance to those of you who receive multiple copies. We are definitely having some issues with the program used to send newsletters out.

    Practice will make perfect.

As for the html only on this one, yes, in the future it will be both html/text. Sorry if you can't read it, but if you can't, go to:

Didn't get one either. Is it using the email in the user profile here or the MyInet thingy?

There is still about 40,000 to send, so you might not have got it yet.

To my knowledge (and don't hold me to this as I had virtually nothing to do with it) it's being sent to all members in good standing on WHT.

I read it and it seemed to be lacking in the news section. The bulk of it was a sales pitch to become a Premium Member. I'm hoping that future newsletters will have more news and less emphasis on purchasing a membership.

Are the newsletters going to be a regular monthly thing here at WHT?

I spoke to soon... As I posted that it arrived, but already read it online since my email don't do HTML.

    I just have a question;

How is the sending of more than 40,000 unsolicited emails without even an opt-in list not a violation of the Can-Spam act of 2003 ?

You are all customers of iNet Interactive, and by signing up, you have agreed to recieve "product" updates.

That's not true Sheps, I'm not a customer of iNet and I have never signed up for anything that has to do with iNet. You should read the link I posted as it clearly states the criteria.

Not to mention the fact that I have the following option:

Allow Bulletin Board Administrators and Moderators To Send You Email Notices?

Checked to NO in my profile.

I unsubscribed from the newsletter as I agree it was just a sales pitch. I thought the newsletter was for only WHT "Paying" members?
Don't look for a way out.

Oh yes! I forgot about that membership benefit!

I wonder if the WHT Insider is an actual newsletter...

Anytime I have ever tried to unsubscribed from SPAM I end up getting it replaced with hundreds more pieces of SPAM.

Highly doubtful. If you don't want the newsletter just unsubscribe.

Does that unsubscribe link even work? It seems to be a "sample" page from the mailing list software manufacturer...

Might want to clarify what you mean. I read that as "Oh, definitely your email address [em]will[/em] be sold." Though I'm certain that is not what you mean.

Well I have a "highly doubtful" and a "definitely" so far. All I am really looking for is a yes or no.

Also, can someone point me to the Privacy Policy for WHT?

At the bottom of the rules page. It states they will not release member information without a court order.

I think you should wait for someone from iNET to answer that.

Although, as JTY just said, the Forum Guidelines page states that information will not be given without a court order.

However, it appears to be a 404 now.

I was sorta joking when I said that. Just poking fun at a few of the people that consider this spam...IT is against WHT's Privacy Policy

Anything that hits my inbox that I didn't ask for or sign up to receive is most certainly SPAM Sheps, whether you personally consider it so or not. I also like to think if I have the email notifications turned off in my control panel, it means I won't get these types of emails.

I think I'll take Dennis' advice and wait for an iNet representative to post the accurate answer.
