I am new to Forum programming.
Which easy to use Forum software you will recommend to start with
and to grow and to build so nice forum like webhostingtalk.com? My forum is not about Web hosting or computers. We are not competitors .

    Thank you,

I recommend and use SMF very heavily. http://www.simplemachines.org/ Very nice package, will work on Windows and *nix servers, extremely easy to install. Configuration is a little bit of a challenge, but once you get the basics down, it'll rock.

i think http://www.vbulletin.com/ (the one that WHT is using) and http://www.invisionboard.com/ are one of the best. (recommended )

Snitz and webwiz are written in ASP language, they're not bad too. check out this forum http://www.ttvnol.com/forum/, though it's not original snitz, they added some more features, their site consume around 5000GB (5 TB)/month

phpBB isn't recommended if you don't like hacking about in files to get some (compared to other boards) basic functionality. Just in case anyone recommends it (although it's my board software of choice mainly because I'm very used to it and know how to hack it to suit my needs nicely!)

    Hi,
Somebody told me that Ultimate Bulletin Board (UltimateBB) is better than
    http://www.vbulletin.com
    or
    http://www.invisionboard.com

    What do you think?

    Thank you.

People have biases as to what forum software they prefer. For paid forum software, I prefer vBulletin. For free, I prefer Invision Board.

The problem with CGI forums is that they require a lot more server resources than vBulletin servers. The new vB3 is said to be less server intensive, but it requires more RAM. If you are on a server with multiple people, don't get a CGI message board, stick with PHP.

Invision Board also has paid options that feature full support, extra plugins for the software, and discounts on other services. They can even install and upgrade the software for you at no additional cost, which is rather nice.

Plus, I know Matt, who programs IPB, and he's a rather nice guy

I agree with the simplemachines recommendation. I tried it, very simple to install and use.

Go with invision, earlier I used to have phpbb but then I went to invison and it was very good experince ,the only problem with invison is that it's hopless in security, even my board got hacked and that too very cleanly

Vbullitein has an excellent security but it's problem is that it is resource intensive, and also Vbullitien is't free
Invison has lot of features like saving CPU power and all
