    Online Backup Services

    Hi there.

I'm sure many of you who read this have had to deal with one
computer failure or another. Hopefully no important data was lost...

...but what if you DID lose important data? Sometimes loss of data can be more catastrophic than loss of the hardware which caused it or contained it.

    http://www.backup2web.com

Backup2web provides highly versatile online storage facilities designed to make data backup an easy, automated task. We include optional (windows) client software, and use the FTP protocol to ensure a broad range of compatibility. Our servers use redundant hardware and are located worldwide, in order to provide maximum data security and availability.

We offer basic backup packages, as well as provide 'made to order' services for larger storage requirements.

Check out our website, we'd love to hear feedback.

    Cheers everyone.

Ok, So your providing backup space.

What about the scripts that make the backups?

Do you include those aswell?, If not I may be willing to write them for you.

I.e for webmin, plesk and ensim.

Currently we offer thoroughly tested 3rd party client software for windows users to perform easy automated backups via FTP, and we also use the usermin file manager to allow easy access via the web. We also include a free online interactive guide for using the client software (which will be going live on the site this afternoon). There is a 30 day free trial for the windows software for those who are interested.

However, we do not have any custom webmin scripting in place for making backups via web interface. Your suggestion of a webmin (usermin) based backup script is very interesting. Could you PM me with more info (ie: what you can offer me in regards to this idea)?

    Thanks for your input.

Just a comment. I don't think that your layout is really professional. If I were looking to back up something and I went to your site I would hesitate to have you back it up. I think the more professional the site looks the faster I would do it. But if you do get a layout dont get one of the ones that are really flashy like a lot of those new hosts coming around are doing.

    Thanks for the straighforward feedback....
We concentrated more on the actual content and functionality first, leaving overall image kinda in the dust... heh, uh, oops.
Oh well... at least the priorities are in order...

The site is currently undergoing graphic improvements, and there will be some noticeable changes in the overall layout.

Here's a flip question for you, though....

What WOULD make you buy backup if you needed it? (I assume you already have your own backup system)

    Thanks again.

Cheap prices... Huge storage... and easy possibly shell access to a folder or something for easy transfer? Say I want to download it from my site... I don't want to download it to my computer and then upload it to your site. You may already have that, I'm not sure by your past posts, but if you do have it... Possibly some php functions that would execute some shell commands so that it could be possible to do those transfers.

Just a note: The site layout has been changed since the previous posts were made. Anyone who has seen it previously is welcome to return to see the difference, which is a big improvement on the old layout (and no, no big flashy pages to make you go blind. )

The service uses FTP for transport (using vsftpd), so 'plugging it in' to other programs (like cpanel) will not be difficult at all. All backup space comes with ftp login/pass as well as an online java based file manager. Scripts are also in development which will allow users to backup their websites and databases directly to backup2web servers.

Feedback on what other sorts of options or information people want for their backup service is welcome. We aim at providing a good service, not just handing out chunks of storage space for rent.

    Thanks for looking!

Possibly a file manager? Not Java though... I don't like java... Possibly a simple php one like cpanel uses... lists files... upload one... delete files... move them... It's really not too hard either... If you need someone to do it too I could get it done for you... or someone else here on WHT...

Java is not everyone's flavor, and file managers are not a problem. We have quite an archive of scripts, including quite a few decent file managers. There is one I am thinking of in particular, called WebRFM. Nothing glamerous, but simply laid out, and super fast response. We'll try to get it or something like it incorporated over the next few days.

    Thanks for the feedback.
